ENCE victorious in GameXpo 2018
ENCE claims the trophy at Assembly GameXpo 2018 CS:GO Tournament on November 3 taking home the grand prize of €11,000.
Assembly GameXpo 2018 concluded on November 3 in Helsinki with a familiar winner. The reigning Finnish champion ENCE marched in as the favourite to win it all and they fulfilled the expectations on Saturday by grabbing the victory over HAVU 2-0 in the finals. The 3rd place was claimed by SuperJymy who defeated SkitLite with another 2-0 finish in the bronze match.
ENCE has been on a hot streak these past two months with top finishes in DreamHack and StarSeries before GameXpo. However, testing their abilities against the best national opposition is always a treat. The last encounter between the final teams was at the Finnish Championships at Assembly Summer, which delivered a nail-biting final going for multiple overtimes in the 3rd and decisive map. This time however, ENCE was on another level and was able to finish off the 2nd best team in Finland with ease.
HAVU's 2nd place finish might have been the best guess by many, but a final spot was not guaranteed at all. They faced a difficult position just roughly two weeks prior to the event with their star player leaving the team. After the initial shock HAVU managed to find a suitable replacement player and get their game together in record pace. In the first match of the tournament they had a rough time against SuperJymy but after the dust had settled in last last map, Train, the victor was clear and HAVU took the final spot despite their difficulties.
SuperJymy also came to the tournament with a fresh roster. On the week of the event, they announced that they will replace two of their younger players with more experienced Finnish veterans. The move might seem a good call otherwise, but the timing was not great considering that GameXpo was just days away. SuperJymy came close in their game against HAVU, especially on Cache, but this time it was not enough to advance. Nevertheless, SuperJymy did not falter after the loss and took a decisive 2-0 victory over SkitLite in the bronze match on Saturday.
SkitLite, known as GGuys in the qualifiers, were facing a mountain of challenge in the tournament. They came in as the only team earning their spot through the online qualifiers and were hungry to show everyone they knew how to play on LAN as well. The first match against ENCE was a rough ride for the youngsters but they got a new chance in the bronze match against SuperJymy. In the end, SkitLite was not able to show their best in the competition and went down 2-0 in both of their matches. However, the tournament gave them a ton of experience and we might be seeing them rise in the Finnish scene in the future.
Congratulations once more to ENCE for their victory!
