Assembly Summer 2017 StarCraft II Rules

These rules are the official rules of Assembly Summer 2017 for StarCraft II. Every participant must read and understand the following rules and hold a sportsmanlike behavior, including screen names. Unsportsmanlike behavior will be sanctioned. Game admins have the final decision in all conflicts and sanctions. Tournament admins reserve all rights for changes related to these documents. Game admins can pause the tournament because of a serious technical problem or other reason as seen fit, e.g. medical emergency.

All cheating, including ghosting, is forbidden. If a participant is not sure whether a certain game mechanic is allowed, they MUST ask the head admin prior to tournament start to find out whether it is allowed or not.

Breaking any of the rules will result in sanctions, including but not limited to:

  • Warnings
  • Losing a single game
  • Losing a game series
  • Deduction from the prize
  • Removal of a player or a team from the tournament
  • Removal of a player or a team from the event

A decision made by a single admin can be challenged by bringing it up with the head admin. This complaint can only be made right after the decision has been called or the game has ended, whichever occurred first. The head admin’s decision is final and cannot be challenged.

1. General rules

  • 1.1: Game: StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void, latest version
  • 1.2: Any software that modifies game files or grants an unfair advantage in the game is strictly forbidden and is grounds for immediate removal from the tournament.
  • 1.3: Players must provide their own gaming paraphernalia (keyboard, mouse, mousepad, headset and in-ear headphones)
  • 1.4: Each player must have a personal Battle.net account.
  • 1.5: Screen names
    • 1.5.1: Players must use their official screen name throughout the tournament.
    • 1.5.2: Sponsors related to other than alcohol, tobacco, gambling or adult entertainment at the end of the name or in clan tag are allowed.
  • 1.6: During a game players may not communicate with anyone except with the opponent and tournament admins.
  • 1.7: Players may communicate with their coaches or team mates between maps.
  • 1.8: Draws and stalemates
    • 1.8.1: If a player deliberately plays for a stalemate in order to prolong the game, the administrators hold the right to decide the outcome of the game.
    • 1.8.2: If there is a natural stalemate and the game ends up in a tie, the game will be replayed from the start.
  • 1.9: Timekeeping
    • 1.9.1: Players must be in place 15 minutes before actual match start for the map veto and/or receiving information.
    • 1.9.2: If a player is not seated and ready when their game is scheduled to start, the player will automatically forfeit their game (group stage) or concede the first map (Bo3+) unless admin states otherwise. During the semi-finals and finals there will be a following 15 minutes time left for the player to be ready or they will forfeit the whole match.
    • 1.9.3: Players are allowed a 3 minute break between the games in a tournament match.
    • 1.9.4: Tournament officials reserve the right to change these timings if circumstances require it.
  • 1.10: Under extreme circumstances administrators reserve the right to change the rules.

2. Game rules

  • 2.1: Map Options
    • 2.1.1: Mode: Faster
    • 2.1.2: Locked Alliances: Yes
    • 2.1.3: Game Privacy: Normal or No Build Order
  • 2.2.: StarCraft II Options
    • 2.2.1: Window mode: Fullscreen or Fullscreen (Windowed)
    • 2.2.2: Automatic Replay Save: ON
    • 2.2.3: Online status: Busy
    • 2.2.4: Toast Notifications: OFF
  • 2.3: Chat
    • 2.3.1: No excessive chatting is allowed in the game. If the need to chat occurs the players must be straight to the point and polite. Ideally the only chat in each game will be at the start and when a player surrenders the game.
    • 2.3.2: No chat is ever permitted from a player to an outside party during a tournament match, or from an outside party to the player, unless the outside party is an administrator.
    • 2.3.3: Typing “gg” after 30 seconds means surrendering. If you type it the game might be considered forfeit even if you wish to continue playing.
  • 2.4: Bugs and exploits
    • 2.4.1: No abuse of game breaking bugs is allowed in any tournament match. Normal mechanics that can be considered bug-like are naturally allowed (such as mineral walk, pylon walk). If you are unsure about some mechanics, ask an administrator.
  • 2.5: Race picking
    • 2.5.1: The same rules for picking a single race apply for picking Random as well.
    • 2.5.2: Each player signs up to the tournament with one set race. If a player wants to change the race before a match, an administrator must be notified, and the new race must be played throughout the whole match.
    • 2.5.3: As soon as a player joins or creates a game he is to choose his playing race.

3. Other rules

  • 3.1: No macro functions on keyboards/mice are allowed to be used in any tournament games.
    • 3.1.1: One mouse click or button press should trigger only one game command.
  • 3.2: External programs which affect the game state or perform in-game actions are not allowed.
  • 3.3: Disconnecting intentionally during a match isn’t allowed.
  • 3.4: If a game is interrupted by a computer, network or software failure the game will be resumed using the Recover Game function. The game time is set maximum of 3 seconds before the disconnect.
  • 3.5: Neither player is allowed to view the replay or details page (e.g. build order tab) of the game before it is fully finished.

4. Pausing

  • 4.1: If a player encounters a problem during a match, they should pause the game and ask an admin for help if need be.
  • 4.2: If a player must pause the game due to technical difficulties they must, if possible, tell the opponent about this before pausing with typing “ppp”.
  • 4.3: If a game is paused without a reasonable explanation such as a technical difficulty the game might result in a forfeit.

5. Maps

  • 5.1: Map pool
    • 5.1.1: The current Battle.net Ladder 1v1 map pool is used.
    • 5.1.2: The map pool contains seven maps.
  • 5.2: Map picks and vetoes
    • 5.2.1: Map selection starter is either the loser of a coin flip or it is Player B, which has the higher (worse) seed. Player B is typically on the right hand side of the match page, or lower in the match-up at bracket view.
    • 5.2.2: In a best of X match, the players remove a map from the pool until X maps are left. The removal is done in order: Player B, Player  A, Player A, Player B, etc. Then the players take turns picking the map order from the maps that are left, starting from the first map that will be played.
    • 5.2.3: Example: best of one (1)
      • B removes one of seven maps.
      • A removes one of six maps.
      • A removes one of five maps.
      • B removes one of four maps.
      • B removes one of three maps.
      • A removes one of two maps.
      • The remaining map will be played.
    • 5.2.4: Example: best of three (3)
      • B removes one of seven maps.
      • A removes one of six maps.
      • A removes one of five maps.
      • B removes one of four maps.
      • B chooses the 1st map to be played from the remaining three maps.
      • A chooses the 2nd map to be played from the remaining two maps.
      • The one remaining map will be played as the 3rd map if necessary.
    • 5.2.5: Example: best of five (5)
      • B removes one of seven maps.
      • A removes one of six maps.
      • B chooses the 1st map to be played from the remaining five maps.
      • A chooses the 2nd map to be played from the remaining four maps.
      • B chooses the 3rd map to be played from the remaining three maps
      • A chooses the 4th map to be played from the remaining two maps.
      • The one remaining map will be played as the 5th map if necessary.
  • 5.3: Every tournament game will be played on maps from the tournament map pool only.
  • 5.4: If the players are required to create the game for themselves, both players have to check that the game is played on the right map and on the correct version of the map. If neither of the players complains about the map version in the first 3 minutes of the game, the game will be played on the selected map unless an admin decides otherwise.
  • 5.5: Streamed games should be created with WCS GameHeart Mod (battlenet://starcraft/map/2/169989).

6. Protests & sanctions

  • 6.1: All protests regarding the game result are to be made within 10 minutes after the match has finished.
  • 6.2: When the match result is protested, affected players can not continue playing matches until the conflict is resolved.
  • 6.3: Sanctions
    • 6.3.1: Warning, map loss, match loss, disqualification, ban.
    • 6.3.2: Tournament officials will use the sanctions available as they see fit.

7. Fair play

  • 7.1: This tournament relies on fair play rules. Insulting others, racism and mocking religion is totally forbidden and will be punished by organizers.
  • 7.2: Tournament participants should always address the administrators in a polite and respectful way.
  • 7.3: Should a participant purposely attempt to sabotage the games, another player or an administrator in any way, the player will be disqualified.

8. Replays

  • 8.1: After every game, both players must save the replay of the game.
  • 8.2: During their break time between the games in a match, players are allowed to watch their latest replay.
  • 8.3: Replays are not be published without permission before an official replay pack is released.

9. Streaming & broadcasts

  • 9.1: If there is an official broadcast for games, players must wait for broadcasters to be ready until matches can start.
  • 9.2: No observers are allowed in any tournament games, except for approved streamers and administrators.
  • 9.3: Players may not watch or listen to any streams of the tournament while playing.
  • 9.4: Players may not stream their own games in offline tournaments.
